Bluffton’s boys’ track and field team put up 158 points in Monday’s ACAC track and field championships to take first place on its home turf.
Bluffton’s Lady Tigers took home a runner-up finish with a 96-point effort.
The Tiger boys won six individual events, with three of them being won by Gus Martinez. He won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.41, 110 meter hurdles with a time 15.71, and 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.97.
Martinez also placed second in long jump at 20 feet 6.5 inches.
Other first-place finishes included Markis Crosbie in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:53.62, Tyler Godwin in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:46.18, and Carter McConnell in high jump at 5 feet 8 inches.
Godwin also was second in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:57.83. McConnell was second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.22 and third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.58.
Andrew Hunt finished second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.29 and took fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.79. Sam Baumgartner came in second in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:49.82.
Several others contributed points to Bluffton’s total as well.
Johnny Cruz placed third in shot put with a throw of 46 feet 1 inch. Ben Ramseyer finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.87. Levi Johns came in fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:14.97. Jude Baumgartner took fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.56. Jon San Juan was sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.29.
Hutch Craighead placed seventh in long jump at 17 feet 9.25 inches. Tavin Frees took seventh in discus with a throw of 112 feet 5 inches. Austin Geimer tied for seventh in high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches. Cameron Farmer came in eighth in shot put with a throw of 41 feet 1 inch.
The Tigers also finished in the top three in all three relays, taking second in the 4×800 and third in the 4×100 and 4×400.
Sam Baumgartner, Jude Baumgartner, Godwin, and Crosbie ran the 4×800. Anthony Cruz, Ramseyer, Craighead, and San Juan ran the 4×100. Hunt, Jude Baumgartner, Crosbie, and McConnell ran the 4×400.
Following the Tigers in the boys’ standings were Heritage with 134 points, Woodlan with 96, Adams Central with 67, South Adams with 55, Jay County with 44, and Southern Wells with 27.
The Raiders placed highest in the high jump and 3,200 meter run. Nick Lozoya cleared 5 feet 6 inches to take third in high jump, and Joshua Bricker took third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:56.38.
Potter Garrett took fourth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:00.98 and seventh in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:09.07.
Meet Patel finished eighth in the 400 meter run with a time of 59.15.
The Raiders came in sixth in the 4×800 meter relay as well. Bricker, Garrett, Andrew Aker, and Rio Horner combined for a time of 9:38.33.
In the girls’ meet, South Adams finished as the champion with 144 points and was the only team that managed to outscore the Lady Tigers.
Bluffton was led by Leslie Sprankles, who won three individual events. She won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.6, the 1,600 meter run with at ime of 5:37.57, and the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:35.46.
Lauren Reiff won the discus with a throw of 118 feet 2 inches and took sixth in long jump at 14 feet 2.5 inches.
Ryleigh Johnson was the runner-up in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.12 and took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.39.
Maryn Schreiber finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:44.77. Haley Gibson placed fifth in long jump at 14 feet 8.5 inches and took sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.42. Alexandria Mackenzie placed fifth in shot put at 32 feet 2 inches and eighth in discus at 92 feet 3 inches. Elsa Corkwell finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.12 and eighth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.96.
Olivia Pula came in seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.66 and placed eighth in high jump at 4 feet 6 inches. Sophie Schwartz was seventh in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.35.Olivia Schreiber took eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.84.
Bluffton’s girls also finished fourth in the 4×400 meter relay and fifth in the 4×100 and 4×800.
Maryn Schreiber, Reiff, Sprankles, and Johnson combined to finish the 4×400 with a time of 4:34.83.
In the 4×100, Corkwell, Gibson, Rosa Chichava, and Pula teamed up to finish with a time of 56.02.
In the 4×800, Maryn Schreiber, Lucia Corkwell, Annika Linderwell, and Alydia Bertsch completed the event with a time of 11:31.57.
Following Bluffton in the team standings were Woodlan in third with 87 points, Heritage in fourth with 85.5, Jay County in fifth with 76.5, Adams Central in sixth with 67, and Southern Wells in seventh with 22.
Sydney McFarren led the Lady Raiders’ scoring effort. She finished third in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 6:00.47 and also finished third in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:58.44.
Brooke Tonner placed fourth in high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches. Zoey Solga took eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.54 and the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.75.
The Lady Raiders’ 4×100 meter relay team of Tonner, Allison Barger, Brianna Hughett, and Solga placed sixth with a time of 56.28.
Bluffton will enjoy a short break before competing at sectional next week. Southern Wells will host Whitko on Tuesday and travel to Woodlan on Thursday.
