BHS golf tops Southwood

The Bluffton Tigers won 177-191 over Southwood in boys’ golf action on Wednesday. 

Keegan Schwartz shot a 38 over Etna Acres’ back nine holes to finish as the medalist of the match. He was followed on Bluffton by Ephraim Frauhiger at 41, Alec Reiff and Kade Abbett each at 49, and Connor Klopfenstein at 54. 

Southwood was led by Luke Watson, who shot a 40. 

In JV, Bluffton won 230-246. 

Draven Dull led the JV Tigers with a 51. He was followed by Kyler Potter at 56, Ethan Hunt at 61, Anthony Hartman at 62, Chase Gibson at 63, Logan Shearrer at 65, Hudson Werich at 69, and Logan Reifsteck at 70. 

Bluffton will tee off again on Saturday at the South Adams Invitational.

NHS track teams defeat Bellmont

Norwell’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams both defeated Bellmont in Wednesday’s home meet. 

The Lady Knights won 79-52, and the Knight boys won 90.5-37.5. 

In the girls’ meet, Makenzie Fuess won the 400 meter dash and long jump. Claire Bailey won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. 

Makenzie Kahn won the 3,200 meter run, Addy Archbold won the 800 meter run, Emerson Meredith won pole vault, and Emma Dummer won high jump. 

Norwell won both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays as well. Lily Hank, Reghan Plunkett, Shae Brooks, and Ari Smith ran the 4×100, and Ali Riley, Archbold, Maddie Reinhard, and Bailey ran the 4×400.

In the boys’ meet, Norwell won all three relays. 

Eli Behning, Gavin Threewits, Kyler Morris, and Marin Melcher won the 4×800 meter relay. Timothy Bonjour, Noah Fromm, Blake Haiflich, and Parker Stringer won the 4×100 meter relay. Jake Parker, Behning, Zander Huss, and Bobby Kwandrans won the 4×400 meter relay. 

Individual winners for Norwell were Parker in the 300 meter hurdles, Bonjour in the 200 meter dash, Fromm in the 100 meter dash, Peterson in the 1,600 meter run, Kwandrans in the 800 meter run, Drew Ringger in long jump, Kellen Zimmer in pole vault, and Kyle Zeddis in discus. Trace Moser also tied for first in high jump.

Norwell’s next meet will be at Leo on Tuesday.

Raiders softball beats Canterbury

Southern Wells’ softball team picked up a 20-6 home victory over Canterbury on Wednesday. 

The Lady Raiders (4-4) scored 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back. They added one more in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth to win by the 10-run rule in five innings. 

The Raiders had 15 hits at the plate and were led by Riley Tappy. The senior went 4-for-4 with three triples and a double, seven RBIs, and four runs scored. Cheyenne Neuenschwander, Jadyn Yencer, and Collena Reeves each had multi-hit games too. 

Kayleigh Jones started on the mound for Southern Wells and pitched one inning, allowing five runs on one hit while striking out three and walking seven. Dhapne Gallegos came in for the final four innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out five and walking four. 

The Raiders will play their next game on Thursday at Adams Central.

Norwell boys’ golf loses match at Leo

Norwell’s boys’ golf team lost 157-191 in Tuesday’s match against Leo at Bridgewater. 

Augie Mann shot a 38 to lead the Knights. He was followed on Norwell by Luke Herrell at 50, Ethan Ottinger at 51, and Derek Smith and Daniel Simmerman each at 52. 

Justin Hicks shot a 37 to lead Leo and finished as medalist of the match. 

Leo won the JV match 184-212. 

Kaden Graft led the JV Knights by shooting a 46. He was followed on Norwell by Davis Miller at 51, Chase Hulvey at 53, Owen Cupp at 62, and Logan Freiburger at 66.

On JV B, Norwell’s Owen Wallis shot a 58, and Josh Adam shot a 67. 

Next up for the Knights will be the South Adams Invitational on Saturday.  

Norwell girls’ tennis falls at Homestead

The Norwell Lady Knights suffered their first loss of the season on the tennis court on Wednesday at Homestead in a 4-1 defeat. 

The Knights (4-1) scored their only point of the match in No. 3 singles, where Addy Heyerly defeated Elaina Schilt 6-0, 6-1. 

The rest was all Homestead. 

Ellie Cook defeated Aubreyan Heyerly 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. Layla Kelly defeated McKenna McNabb 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-1 in No. 2 singles. Anna Topmiller and Rhegan Zitlaw defeated Annabelle Johnson and Mackinzie Toliver 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. Lydia Stout and Grace Hansen defeated Jordyn Xayyachack and Sofia Fernandez 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles. 

Norwell won the JV match 7-6. 

Gracie Rinkenberger won No. 5 singles 6-1. Ella Krug won No. 6 singles 6-0. Ciera Hiester and Lisa Beckman won No. 2 doubles 8-3. Marlee Wenger and Isabel Isch won No. 4 doubles 8-4. 

Hiester and Beckman also won No. 5 doubles 6-1, Renee Fraze and Taylor Werling won No. 6 doubles 6-1, and Wenger and Roembke won No. 7 doubles 6-3. 

Norwell will host Wayne on Friday for its next match.
