Rainfall during daylight hours Thursday and a wintry mix of snow and ice Thursday night has created a warning of minor flooding in two area rivers.

The National Weather Service office for northern Indiana says the Wabash River at Bluffton was expected to reach flood stage of 10 feet Thursday evening. The river is expected to crest at 12.5 feet early Sunday afternoon and fall back below flood stage on Monday morning.

The NWS statement says the water will reach the bottom of the White Bridge, which carries Wells County Road 450E over the river, when the river level hits 12 feet. A few county roads are expected to be closed by high water.

On the Salamonie River below Warren, the river was at 11.6 feet Thursday afternoon with flood stage at 12 feet. The river is expected to crest at 12.4 feet Saturday morning, however, and fall below flood stage late Saturday evening.

All that is expected to happen with the  Salamonie being over flood stage is flooding of low agricultural land and reads nearest the river — Belleville Road and East Flowing Well Road northwest of Warren — will become impassable and isolate nearby residences.

Two inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice was expected in the area Thursday night.
