INCIDENTS
City:
Friday, 2:20 p.m., Western Avenue at South Adams Street. Bluffton police officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding. The driver of the vehicle, K Paw Wah, 27, Fort Wayne, allegedly became belligerent with the officer about being charged with speeding and insisted on being taken to jail. The officer reportedly told Wah on several occasions to get back into his vehicle and leave, but Wah allegedly refused. At that point the officer placed Wah under arrest and charged him with obstructing traffic, a Class A misdemeanor, since his vehicle was obstructing the westbound lane of Western Avenue. Several law enforcement officers responded to the stop and also reportedly ordered Wah into his car, but he declined. He was released on his own recognizance.
Friday, 5:05 p.m., apartment in the 300 block of West Central Avenue. Caller reported he was checking on an apartment for a friend and discovered someone had entered the apartment and had stolen a television set, a gaming system and his friend’s vehicle.
Friday, 6:10 p.m., residence in the 200 block of East Townley Street. Verbal altercation between husband and wife. Officers responded. Situation calmed.
Friday, 8:23 p.m., Indiana Technical Installations, 2220 N. Main St. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. No sign of foul play found.
Friday, 8:38 p.m., residence in the 300 block of West Miller Street. Report of a verbal altercation between a man and a woman. Officers responded. Situation calmed.
Saturday, 1:17 p.m., Pine Grove apartments. Officers responded to a report of a physical altercation between a man and a woman. Gage Alan Kidwell, 23, Bluffton, was charged with domestic battery with bodily injury to a pregnant female and strangulation against a pregnant woman, both Level 5 felonies. He was held under $35,000 bond.
Saturday, 4:29 p.m., Magnolias and Minis Clothing Boutique, 613 N. Main St. Owners of the store reported the store’s video surveillance was showing that there were two people inside the store when the store was supposed to be closed and no one was to be inside. A minute later, a woman called 911 reporting she had been in the store and was concerned because there were no employees inside. The door was unlocked and she thought because the store was unlocked, it was open. Officer relayed information to the owners who were en route to lock up the store.
Saturday, 5 p.m., officers requested to provide a police escort through Bluffton for the Norwell High School boys’ swim team, which had just won the swimming sectional championship.
Saturday, 6:46 p.m., American Legion, 111 W. Washington St. Officers requested to assist a homeless man who was at the bar. The man left before officers arrived.
Saturday, 8:14 p.m., Comfort Inn and Suites. Report of an older man in the motel who appeared to be confused, saying the police department was making reservations for him and that his sister was being electrocuted somewhere. Officers dispatched. Gary Burkholder, Goshen, was detained on a warrant out of St. Joseph County for violating probation from a Nov. 8, 2021, conviction for residential entry,.
Sunday, 1:34 p.m., River Road at Wayne Street. Wabash River had flooded over the road.
Monday, 8:09 a.m., residence in the 800 block of South Marion Street. Caller reported someone apparently tried to siphon gas from her vehicle and also tried to remove a rim from it.
County:
Friday, 8:51 p.m, Ind. 3 near Ind. 218. Sheriff’s deputy came upon a man walking alongside the highway with a car following alongside him. The man and the female driver had been arguing and the man had gotten out of the vehicle and decided to walk. The sheriff’s deputy offered the man a ride to his destination, but he decided to get back into the car and go home with the woman.
Saturday, 12:02 a.m., 450E north of 400N. Trash in the roadway. Deputy removed the trash and the trash can from the road.
Saturday, 12:34 a.m., Covenant Chapel, 3550S-Ind. 1. Burglar alarm. Deputies responded. Alarm tripped by a member who was in the process of setting up tables for a church function.
Saturday, 9:04 p.m., 100W south of Ind. 218. Car slid off the road into a field. No damage to the vehicle but the driver was complaining of back pain. Wells County EMS responded to the scene. Children in the vehicle were uninjured. The car was towed from the scene.
Sunday, 1:30 a.m., 300 block of North County Line Road, Markle. Report of a physical domestic altercation between a man and a woman. Deputies, trooper and Markle police officer responded. Situation calmed. Anthony Joe Fields, 32, of that address was arrested on one count of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 felony. Bond set at $25,000.
Sunday, 5:20 a.m., Ind. 3 near 700S. Deer struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The deer was still alive, although badly injured. A sheriff’s deputy used his service pistol to put the deer down.
Sunday, 12:35 p.m., residence on U.S. 224 west of 700E. Caller reported her neighbor’s Catahoula leopard dogs were on her property and approached her aggressively. She chased the dogs away with a hammer in her hand. Deputy spoke with the dogs’ owner who said that the dogs had shock collars and that he was going to have the invisible fence checked.
Sunday, 10:11 p.m., residence on 200S west of 200E. Caller reported someone drove through the caller’s yard and ran over a mailbox.
Ossian:
Friday, 11:44 a.m., Jefferson Street at Mill Street. Ossian police officer was monitoring traffic and decided to perform a license plate check on a northbound Jeep. The registration of the vehicle showed Andriana Lahay France, Fort Wayne, had a suspended identification card. The officer pulled the vehicle over and cited France into Wells Superior Court on one count of driving while suspended with a prior conviction, a Class A misdemeanor. France had a prior conviction in Wells Superior Court Dec. 18, 2020.
Friday, 5:20 p.m., 200 block of Countryside Drive, Ossian. Caller reported his neighbor was beating on the side of his house. Officer responded and spoke with the neighbor. Apparently the problem between the neighbors stemmed from one neighbor complaining about the other neighbor’s barking dog. Both parties were warned for trespassing on each other’s property.
Sunday, 3:47 p.m., former Ossian Furniture and Design, 10018N-Ind. 1, Ossian. Burglar alarm. Officer responded. No sign of foul play found.
Monday, 12:57 p.m., residence in the 200 block of LaFever Street. Report of a domestic disturbance. Officer responded, situation calmed, parties separated.
FIRE RUNS
Friday, 10:30 p.m., 108 W. Roe St., Ossian, residence of Kristine N. Rinehart. Smell of smoke in the house. Ossian Fire Department dispatched. Source of the smell was traced to a faulty furnace blower.
Monday, 1:43 a.m., Peyton’s Northern Distribution warehouse, 1111 S. Adams St. Fire alarm. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Alarm tripped accidentally.
