There has reportedly been a lot of discussion following the county’s recent bridge inspection.
County Engineer Nate Rumschlag told the commissioners this month that the countywide inspection is in its draft form from Butler, Fairm and Seufert and that he’s started his review. He expects it to be in a final version yet this month.
“There has been quite some discussion on all of these (proposed) changes, but as we are working with a different engineer this cycle there are some changes of opinion on some elements within the report,” Rumschlag noted in his report to the commissioners Feb. 7.
Some of the bridges specifically mentioned included two new load restrictions.
For the bridge on Jeff Road near 1200S, the existing limit of none would now be 24 tons. Rumschlag said he was surprised that it wasn’t posted before this inspection, and it’s on his rotation for improvement hopefully in 2024 or 2025.
The bridge on 500W near 1200N moved from 30 tons to 16 tons. Rumschlag said the load rating never should have been 30 tons, calling it a miscalculation. It should stay at 16 tons for awhile now.
Other bridges Rumschlag noted included 300W near 200S, a limit from 25 tons to no posting; 100W north of Ind. 116, 16 tons to no posting; 300W north of 400N, 36 tons to no posting; 100W north of 800S, 26 tons to no posting; and 400N east of 300W, 23 tons to no posting.
