Ruth Jean Smith, age 81, passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at her residence in Bluffton, following an extended illness.

Ruth was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Herbert C. Reeder and Viva O. Frost Reeder. Both parents preceded her in death.

She was a 1958 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. Ruth worked at the Nowak’s Progress Store, G.C. Murphy store, and Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Bluffton. She retired from the Bluffton Kroger in 2018 following several years of service.

She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, dancing and listening to country music.

Ruth is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Michael Yancey) Miller of Bluffton, and Charlotte Hooker and Rita (Michael) Davis, both of Lima, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Joan Reeder of Lima, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Mona Cox, Mary Jane Radabaugh, Jean Ann Matson, and Nancy Young; two brothers, John Reeder and William Reeder; and a son in law, Michael Hooker.

Receiving of friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, immediately following the visitation. 

Burial will take place at the Truro Cemetery in Columbus Grove, Ohio.
