A number of Wells County telephone subscribers experienced a service shutdown Wednesday afternoon, due to a failure of equipment in Fort Wayne.
Lee Von Gunten, general manager of Craigville Telephone and AdamsWells Telecom, reported that a “critical main processing unit in a fiber optic transport service failed.”
While a back-up processor was in place for such an event, it failed as well, resulting in the service interruption which lasted from approximately 3:00 p.m. until a new unit was installed at 6:45 p.m.
Von Gunten said that partial service was restored at 6:50 p.m. and full operation was restored at 7:10 p.m.
