The Wells County Commissioner announced their intent to appoint a new county attorney on Monday.

Colin Andrews, the county’s current attorney, was elected as Wells County prosecutor in November and will begin working in the role Jan. 3.

The commissioners interviewed candidates during recent executive sessions. On Monday, Commissioner Jeff Stringer stated he wanted more time to review the candidates, and they agreed to appoint the position at a later meeting.

Before closing, Commissioner President Mike Vanover congratulated Andrews on the new position, and Andrews in return thanked the commissioners and County Council for their continued hard work.

The commissioners later approved the following appointments for 2023: Bobbie Studebaker as courthouse custodian, Rick Velasquez as emergency management coordinator, Nate Rumschlag as engineer, Shawn Bonar as highway supervisor, Roger Richardson as the IT director, Dewey Randall as veterans officer, and Mike Miller as 911 director.

They also approved the following board appointments for 2023: Janessey Kline to the Alcoholic Beverage Board, Thomas Liby to the cemetery board, Commissioner Blake Gerber to the Chamber of Commerce, Andy Yergler to the Community Corrections advisory board, Stringer to economic development, Vanover to the Emergency Management agency board, Commissioner Blake Gerber to the Emergency Medical Services board, Molly Hoag to the Health Department board, and Roger Irick to the Rockcreek Conservancy District. They also appointed Laura Dalrymple, Sheri Duncan and Diana Collins to the Sick Bank Committee and Tim Rohr and Tyson Brooks to the Area Plan Commission with Gerber and Stringer as alternates.

There is still a vacant position on the Community Corrections advisory board.
