Members of the Bluffton Board of Public Works and Safety Tuesday afternoon approved an increase in the rates charged to the public for the disposal of dead animals.
The prices are determined by the animal’s weight. The current fee for animals 20 pounds and under is $20; that will now go up to $25. Other costs are $21 to 50 pounds, from $25 to $30; 51 to 90 pounds, from $30 to $35; and 91 pounds or more, from $35 to $45.
Police Chief Kyle Randall presented the request for the rate increase. The company that had been taking care of the animals was sold, he said, and the new company was increasing the rates — and the increases were effective Tuesday.
The changes only affect disposal rates, Randall said.
The change was approved by the two members of the Board of Works present — Scott Mentzer and Roger Thornton. Mayor John Whicker was not present Tuesday.
