Thursday, 3:19 p.m. Wells County Courthouse, 102 W. Market St. Report that a woman had just left the Wells County Probation office. She was on probation after having been convicted for being an habitual traffic violator. Probation staff reportedly saw the woman get into a Chevrolet Astro mini van parked on Market Street and start driving away. A Bluffton police officer pulled over the van and arrested the woman, identified as Mary Jane Whited, 36, Fort Wayne, on one count of operating a motor vehicle after having been found to be an habitual traffic violator, a Level 6 felony. Bond set at $5,000.

Thursday, 2:28 p.m., Snider Tire, 1400 W. Wiley Ave. Officer pulled over a semi after reportedly witnessing it fail to stop for a stop sign at Cherry Street and Midway Street and arrested the driver, Jason Andrew Dillard, 46, Albany, for operating a motor vehicle after having been declared an habitual traffic violator for life, a Level 5 felony. Bond set at $10,000.

Thursday, 2:35 p.m., WEG, 410 E. Spring St. Officer requested to remove a fired male employee refusing to leave. The employee left before officers arrived.

Thursday, 5:44 p.m., Marion Street at Lancaster Street. Officer warned several juveniles to stay off the Wabash Central Railroad trestle over the Wabash River.

Thursday, 5:44 p.m., Save-On Liquor North, 605 N. Main St. Report of a man slumped over the steering wheel of a GMC Canyon pickup truck. Officers and Wells County EMS dispatched. The man was not passed out, just sleeping because he was “exhausted from work and from being separated from his ‘ol’ lady.”

Thursday, 5:56 p.m., report of three people walking along the Wabash River bank near the Old Bluffton Cemetery. Officers dispatched. One of the three, Kenneth Cunningham, age and address not listed, was arrested on an active warrant out of Ohio. No further details available.

Thursday, 7:29 p.m., CoCo China restaurant, 2020 N. Main St. Officer assisted a motorist who needed a jump charge of a vehicle battery.

Thursday, 11:10 residence in the 1300 block of South Ellingham Pike. Caller reported theft of outdoor furniture.

Friday, 12:17 a.m., caller in the 500 block of West Spring Street reported hearing the sound of hammering coming from a nearby woods. Officers responded and noted that the noise was coming from HVAC workers on the roof of the Bluffton First Church of the Nazarene.

Friday, 9:23 a.m., resident in the 1200 block of West Washington Street called 911 to ask if there was anyone available in the emergency room at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. The dispatcher had to explain that was not what 911 was for and directed the caller to call the hospital directly.

County:

Thursday, 7:58 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported one of their deputies was in pursuit of a U-Haul truck driving 95 mph south on Bluffton Road approaching I-469. The driver of the vehicle drove into a cornfield before reaching I-469 and bailed out. A Wells County sheriff’s deputy was close to the Allen County line so he and his K-9 partner responded and assisted in the search for the suspect, but the suspect was not located.

Friday, 10:29 a.m., Ind. 124 at 100W. Sheriff’s deputy gave a ride to a stranded motorist.

FIRE RUNS

Friday, 10:13 a.m., Professional Federal Credit Union, 1331 Baker Place. Report of a smell of natural gas in the building. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. No gas detected. It is believed that the odor might have been coming from sewer gas.
