Victor E. Gerber, age 90, of Bluffton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to the Lord peacefully, on Saturday evening, May 15, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones.
Victor was born in Wells County on Mar. 28, 1931, to Elias R. and Rose (Schwartz) Gerber. He married Julia A. Pfister in Wells County on Mar. 22, 1959; she survives.
Victor was a 1950 graduate of Lancaster Central High School, where he was a member of the basketball and track teams. He served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean War. He retired from Gerber Furniture in Bluffton after 56 years of service and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
Victor was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees. For many years, he and Julia enjoyed traveling to Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vic’s family will always remember him as a man who loved deeply, lived simply, and treated others the way he wished to be treated.
In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Victor is survived by a daughter, Kim M. (Kent) Gerber of Ossian and a son, Kevin W. Gerber of Bluffton, to whom he was a cherished father; four grandchildren, Kasha (Josh) Imel, Kyle (Deone) Gerber, Kyra Gerber, and Kelby Gerber; four great-grandchildren, Aliah, Kyla, Decklin, and Krew Gerber; three brothers, Wendell Gerber, Vernon Gerber, and Tillman (Betty) Gerber, all of Bluffton; a sister, Audrey Paxson of Michigan; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Gerber of Bluffton.
Aside from his parents, Victor was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gerber, and a sister, Lucille Steffen Clark.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, officiated by Dan Pfister and Ryan Bertsch. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County.
