Interview with Brady Beck, junior at Southern Wells High School.

How old are you?

I’m 16.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?

The funniest thing that happened to me was probably when we went TPing. I didn’t see a ditch when I was running back to the car and I fell in the ditch.

Ha ha. Was there water in it?

No, thank goodness.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go and why?

I’d probably go to Green Bay, Wisconsin, just to see the Green Bay Packers. They’re my favorite team in the NFL.

Are they doing well this year?

They are. They’re 7 and 1 as of last night.

You have found a suitcase containing $1 million. The authorities say it’s yours to keep. What do you do with it?

I would probably buy a commercial hog barn or farm ground and equipment so I could farm.

So that is in your future plans?

Yes, some type of farming.

Good for you!

Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you hope to accomplish someday?

My grandpa was a Vietnam veteran. He rode on the side of a helicopter, on a Huey.

So is that something you want to do??

Maybe not do, but I have respect for it.

Well tell him thank you for his service.

What are you proudest of?

My family or my truck. I love my truck too.

[Laughing] The truck ranks right up there with the family, huh?

Yep.

So is your truck all decked out?

Not decked out, but its kind of a classic truck. It’s a 1998 Chevy. It’s never been in the snow. No rust or anything.

Wow!

What do you wish that you knew how to do that you can’t right now?

Probably be a successful business man so I can manage a farm or something.

Is that something you are going to go to school for?

Probably. Ag business.

Do you own a pet?

I own several. I actually have my own hogs. I have several dogs and cats. I had a couple of cows at one point.

Do you name any of them?

I have three dogs. One is Bailey, Skipper and Shadow. We do name some of the pigs. Babe and Glory and some other names.

Do you remember how they got their names?

I was pretty young for a couple of them, but Shadow is because he always followed me around.

Oh that’s cute.

Can you tell me a joke?

I did think of one. It’s kind of corny. What do you call a cow with no legs?

I’m not sure.

Ground beef.

[Laughing] That is a good one! The cornier the better!

What is your favorite class in school and why?

Analytical Algebra 2. The teacher is really fun and everyone in the class gets along together. It’s a good time.

Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities?

I do cross country, track, FFA, and I lift after school.

How about outside of school activities?

I deer hunt and fish and work.

You stay busy!

Do you think it’s important to speak and understand other languages?

Yes. I took Spanish for a couple years, but I’m not that good at it. There are other cultures in the U.S. that we probably should know.

Why do you feel that way?

Just in case of certain circumstances. You never know when you have to talk in Spanish or Chinese.

What is your favorite game to play and why?

Football. Our cross country team played girls against the guys. The guys won of course.

Who is one of your friends that make you laugh all the time?

Gideon. He makes me laugh all the time. He’s in cross country too. His dad farms, and we hang out quite a bit. It’s just the way he acts. He’s a goofball most of the time.

[Laughing]

Who is your most academically-inclined friend?

Katie or Breann. If I have questions, I ask them because they know what they’re doing.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?

Hopefully with a hog farm or a grain farm. I would start at the bottom and work my way up. Probably a two-year business college.

Will you have a house and kids in 10 years?

At 26? That might be a little early. Maybe.

[Laughing] As long as the right one comes along right?

Yeah.

You have your future all planned out. You have a lot to be proud of.
