Millie Price

Interview with Millie Price, a junior at Southern Wells High School

How old are you?

I’m 16.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?

This is the only thing I can think of. I just got my ears pierced on Saturday. It was funny because I didn’t have my mom there with me so I ended up being my friend’s mom’s child.

Was mom okay with that?

Yes. We thought it was pretty funny. How they do it is they like put a marker on your ears to see where they want it. When I was getting my done the lady was like ‘Mom, do you want to check this out? She’s like ‘what?’. Like oh shoot. I’m mom.

That’s good. A little sneaky and ornery, but funny.

Oh, so you love horses?

Yes, and my favorite TV show is filmed there.

Do you have horses?

I have one at my grandpa’s house. We don’t have the room for it at my house.

You have found a suitcase containing $1 million. The authorities say it’s yours to keep. What do you do with it?

At this age?

Well I would put it all in a bank and use it for college. Then I know I’d have a ton of it left after that so I would build my dream house and get a bunch of horses.

Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you hope to accomplish someday?

Being as successful as my great aunt. She has a lot of money. Straight up.

[All laughing]

What does she do?

Something in business, but I don’t know exactly what is it.

What are you proudest of?

Probably my drive to get good grades. I cried when I got a B on my report card.

What do you wish that you knew how to do that you can’t right now?

Well what I can think of right now is there are a bunch of basketball skills that I cannot do, but I wish I could do. That would help me out a lot.

Do you own a pet?

Yes. Three dogs.

What are their names?

Nitro, Hemi and Bruno.

How did they get their names?

I don’t even know how Nitro and Hemi go their names, but Bruno got his name because he was a stray and we were actually trying to get rid of him. The guy we were trying to give him to said he looks like a Bruno. I was like, ‘I kinda like that’. So it stuck.

Can you tell me a joke?

What do you call a guy with a rubber toe?

No idea.

Love it!

What is your favorite class in school and why?

Probably English. For the last two years I’ve had the same teacher, and she was amazing. This year I don’t have her so it’s probably not going to be my favorite.

Even if it weren’t for the teacher do you generally like English class?

Yeah. I like to read a lot so it always helps. Math used to be my favorite, but this year I was in Algebra 2 and that got difficult so. I still like to do it. The equations and figuring it out, but when it gets harder it’s harder to like.

Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities?

Softball and basketball. I used to cheer, but not anymore.

How about outside of school activities?

4-H just in the summer.

4-H with the horses?

I did that last year with my cousins horse. My horse isn’t trained to do that. I show meat goats.

Do you think it’s important to speak and understand other languages?

Personally I hate Spanish class so I don’t think I need to know it. At the same time, there are bunch of Spanish-speaking people in our country so it makes sense to learn and be able to communicate with them.

Is there a language you want to learn? Why?

No. It’s too hard.

What is your favorite game to play and why?

The card game Kemps. It’s so fun. You have a deck of cards and a partner. You get four cards and four cards laid out. The trick is to try and get four of the same cards. Once you get four, you try to give your partner a signal without the other people knowing. If they get the signal, they yell Kemps and you lay your cards down and you get a K. Once you spell out Kemps you win.

Who is one of your friends that make you laugh all the time?

Ashtyn. She’s my best friend. When we’re together, we never stop laughing.

That’s great!

Who is your most academically-inclined friend?

[All laughing] Who’s a close second to you?

Probably Georgia. She is pretty smart.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?

Hopefully I’m married. How will I get there? Meet somebody in college. I hope to be in medical school. That’s the dream. I don’t know if I’ll get there. It’s really hard.

I’m sure you can do it. What are you going for?

I want to be an obstetrician.

Wow! Good for you. Are you going to deliver babies?

Nice! You have a really great future ahead of you. Sounds like you have good plans and you’re working hard.
