Carroll D. Hiester, 80, of Bluffton, passed away Thursday morning, July 18, 2019, at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur.

He was born on March 4, 1939, to George A. Hiester and Marcella Ladig Hiester. His parents preceded him in death. Carroll married Janice A. Kaufman on April 7, 1972 in Tennessee; she survives in Bluffton.

Following high school, Carroll enlisted in the United States Army where he spent the next 12 years serving his country. After leaving the military he worked maintenance and security positions for several area factories. He retired in 2001 from WalMart in Bluffton. Carroll was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and Moose Lodge in Bluffton.

Carroll is survived by his wife; three sons, Mike (Terri) Hiester of Nashville, Tenn., Jim Pursley of Ossian, and Rex Pursley of Bluffton; five daughters, Diana (Robert) Ferguson of Tennessee, Kathy (Don) Hile of Bumpass, Va., and Tammy Hiester, Debbie (Scott) Hiester, and Teresa (Jeff) Schmidt, all of Ossian; and a brother, Keith (Jo) Hiester of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Hiester, and a sister, Alice Gephart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind. 124, Bluffton. Dr. Bryson E. Bell will officiate at the services. American Legion Post 111 in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the funeral home, with additional visitation one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Legion Post 111.
