Interview with Xavier Walden, junior at Southern Wells High School.
How old are you?
What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
Actually just the other day I was working on my car for an oil change and I shot oil in my face. I was sitting right under it. I didn’t even think about it and I moved the bowl and oil shot all over me.
I bet that was hard to clean off.
Yeah and it was a little hot too. I’d just got done driving it.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
Honestly everywhere. It’s kind of a big dream actually to go see anywhere and everywhere. Learn everything about it.
Great! Is there one place that you know you will go for sure?
Alaska so I can see the Northern Lights.
You have found a suitcase containing $1 million. The authorities say it’s yours to keep. What do you do with it?
The first thing is I would buy my dream car. A ’68 Charger. Then probably just save it.
Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you hope to accomplish someday?
My dad, no matter what he can fix or do anything. He seems to be able to do it the best. Hopefully one day I can be like that too.
That’s a good answer.
What are you proudest of?
For one, getting myself with Madalynn (girlfriend). She’s been the best part of my life. Also, trying new things and believing in myself that I can do things out of the normal.
What do you wish that you knew how to do that you can’t right now?
Completely fix a car. I know a little bit. I’d like to know more so if I break down on the side of the road I‘m not trying to rush to get someone over there. I’d be able to do it myself.
Do you own a pet?
I personally don’t, but my sister does. She has a cat. I hate it though.
What’s his name?
[Laughing] Why don’t you like it?
It likes to pee on me and scratch me, bite me.
Oh my gosh!
Can you tell me a joke?
No. That’s a hard one.
What is your favorite class in school and why?
History. I like to learn about everything that’s happened and why things happened. Why people are how they are.
Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities?
Yes. Football, wrestling and track.
How about outside of school activities?
Music and Parkour.
Do you do those dangerous jumps off rooftops and so forth?
Yes. Kind of all of it.
Do you worry your parents?
I don’t think so really. They know I can take it. [Laughing]
Do you think it’s important to speak and understand other languages?
In some cases yes it would be pretty important.
Is there a language you want to learn?
Not necessarily, but if I were to ever go to another country then I would want to know a little bit.
What is your favorite game to play and why?
Fallout. It’s a console game. Post-apocalyptic. It’s my favorite game to play.
Who is one of your friends that make you laugh all the time?
Madalynn, my girlfriend. She’s my best friend. She makes me laugh all the time. She’s hilarious.
Who is your most academically inclined friend?
That’s a hard one I don’t have very many of those. It was probably Madalynn, but she’s out of school now.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?
I see two different things. Either somewhere in the medical field or in my car driving somewhere.
What about the medical field? Are you leaning towards anything in particular?
Nursing or physical therapy at St. Francis.
Great! It sounds like you have some great future plans. It was fun getting to know you.
