Taylor Lee

Interview with Taylor Lee, senior at Southern Wells High School.

How old are you?

I’m 18.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?

A couple years ago we had gone on a trip up to Chicago to the Art Institute. We go to The Bean first. I think it’s called Cloud Gate. We had seen pigeons there and I mistakenly called them city chickens. My brain was just a few steps behind. That has stuck around for quite sometime.

[Laughing] I like that. I’m going to call all pigeons city chickens now and I will remember that Taylor said that.

That’s been a joke between me and one of my closest friends.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go and why?

Japan. I’ve read a lot of stuff from over there. I’ve always found the culture interesting; the food tasty. Stuff like that.

Nice! Have you been to Takaoka restaurant?

Yes, I’ve been to several of the Japanese restaurants in Fort Wayne.

You have found a suitcase containing $1 million. The authorities say it’s yours to keep. What do you do with it?

I’d probably buy as big of a 3D printer as I could get. I’d be able to print whatever I wanted.

What would you make with the printer?

I don’t know. Just whatever came to mind I guess.

Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you hope to accomplish someday?

I’d say my grandpa. He knows a little bit of everything. He’s kind of the person I’ve worked with. I worked a job with him the past two summers. He’s taught me a lot of things about construction. So I guess his knowledge about a bunch of everything. Jack of all trades. He’s taught me a lot and there is still more I can learn.

What are you proudest of?

Right now my grades. It’s something I’ve worked hard at.

What do you wish that you knew how to do that you can’t right now?

I wish I could program. Do computer programming. I’d like to be able to do the job market stuff in general.

Is that something you are thing of going onto school for?

Yes. I’m probably going to go into Computer Sciences in all honesty. So that sort of in that area.

Do you own a pet? What’s his name?

Yes. LeBron. I didn’t name him. My dad named him. I choose bad names for animals. I would choose something really obscure and nobody wants to pronounce it.

I love it!

Can you tell me a joke?

I’m reading a book about anti-gravity. It’s impossible to put down.

What is your favorite class in school and why?

Right now it’s got to be my Independent Art Study. Because I just kind of just make art. Just do whatever I want. I sit in class for an entire hour just making art.

Are you pretty creative?

Yes. I do like making art. I kind of like dabbling in a little bit of everything. I do digital work and I’ll work with clay and stuff like that. I started out with a lot of drawing.

I wish I had that talent.

It’s a lot of practice.

Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities?

No. I’m not much of an extracurricular kind of person.

How about outside of school activities?

Drama club. I’m more backstage.

Do you think it’s important to speak and understand other languages? Is there a language you want to learn?

Yes. Japanese. I have picked up a little bit of the reading, but speaking wise I still have a ways to go. It’s much different from more Latin, English related languages. I took German over at Bluffton, but if I had to learn a language it definitely would be Japanese.

What is your favorite game to play and why?

It’s probably Persona 5. It’s one of my Favorite games. It’s a JRPG and it’s pretty fun.

What’s a JRPG?

It’s a Japanese role playing game.

Who is one of your friends that make you laugh all the time?

Linden and Grace. They both say funny things from time to time. They just say some random stuff and will make references to other stuff I’ve watched. Sometimes it’s just like kind of that spur-of-the-moment kind of thing and it just makes it hilarious.

Who is your most academically inclined friend?

That would also be Linden. I’m currently valedictorian and she’s the salutatorian.

Nice! Good for you! Wow!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?

Hopefully with a job. In all honesty I’m not too sure. I’m just kind of playing things by ear right now. I want to get into Computer Sciences, but I don’t know exactly if that’s what I want to do with the rest of my life. It’s kind of a play things by ear and where I get to is where I get to kind of thing.

Are you going to college somewhere?

Yes. I’ll be at Indiana Tech up in Fort Wayne.

Great!  You have a lot to be proud of. I’m sure you will have many successes.
