Eugene “Gene” Joseph McQuade Jr., 68, of Bluffton, passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2019, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Gene was born Sept. 17, 1950, in Janesville, Wisc., to Eugene Joseph McQuade Sr. and Delores La Vone Squire McQuade. He graduated from Parker High School in 1969 and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin. Gene worked for the Rock County Highway Department in Wisconsin. He worked for General Motors from 1977 until his retirement in 2007. 

Gene married Sandra Kay Pann)April 1, 1970, in Janesville, Wisc. Gene was active in many sports, including softball, bowling and golf. He enjoyed watching his family participate in sporting events, and even coached little league. An avid bowler, Gene was inducted into the Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He scored three hole-in-ones on the golf course, and even went skydiving out of a plane. 

Survivors include his wife, Sandy in Bluffton; a daughter, Mindy K. (Bradley D.) Breidenstein of Janesville, Wisc.; a son, Chad W. (Dune) McQuade of Ossian; and five grandchildren, Aaron M. Studebaker of Milton, Wisc., Cole A. Studebaker of Janesville, Wisc., Mercades A. McQuade of Fort Wayne, and Makya K. McQuade and Maeli J. Cassel, both of Ossian. He is also survived by siblings, Kathleen M. McQuade of Madison, Wisc., Patricia J. Jones of Janesville, Wisc., William R. (Pat) McQuade of Columbia Falls, Mont., Carol A. (Bryon) Herzig of Janesville, Wisc., Linda S. (Jeff) Gardner of Lake Havasu, Ariz., David H. McQuade of Janesville, Wisc., Delores M. (Jessie) Portillo of Donna, Texas, Theresa L. (John) Aube of Bend, Oregon, Denise M. (Tom) Novachek of Lake Port, Calif., Michelle E. (Randy) Powell of Venice, Fla., and Timothy L. McQuade of Janesville, Wisc.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton.
