Former Alexandria resident Lena J. Lakes Moser, 69, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1949, in Middletown, Ohio, to L J and Edith Reichter Lakes. She was a graduate of Bluffton Allen High School-Class of 1967 and earned an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech. She was a draftsman/tool designer in the family business, LEMCO in Bluffton. Lena also taught at the Ivy Tech-Elkhart Campus. Lena was an accomplished soprano soloist and shared her musical talents along with her siblings. She enjoyed crocheting and was a writer of poetry.
Survivors include a daughter, Heather (Daryn) Leeper of Farmland; a son, Jonathan (Amy) Zook of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Christian Zook of West Lafayette, Wesley Leeper of Anderson, Madeleine (Jared) Fradenburgh of Fort Wayne and Morgan Leeper of Goldsboro, N.C.; sister, Marsha (Gary) Matyas of Olney, Md.; sisters-in-law, Etta Lakes of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Sandra Lakes of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, JeRome Lakes and Ross Lakes.
Services honoring Lena’s life and legacy will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria with Pastor Jeff Ellis officiating. A private family interment service will take place on Thursday in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Wednesday prior to the services.
