Interview with Juniper Tucker. Junior at Southern Wells High School

Juniper Tucker

How old are you?
I am 16. 17 in September.

Ok, you have a birthday coming up! Do you like your name?
Yeah, I really do actually. It’s kind of unique.

Like a Juniper Tree?
Yeah.

If you had to change your name what would it be?
If I had to it would be my middle name Marie because it’s something I’m used to. I really like it.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
Well, last week we were on vacation in Yellowstone and there was this, like really steep hill down to a river and I was walking down. I slipped and I slid all the way down. It hurt pretty bad, but it was funny at the end.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
My dream is to travel everywhere so it’s really hard to narrow it down. I love mountains and all things nature and hiking and stuff.

You’ve been given an elephant. You cannot give it away or sell it. What would you do with it?
Kind of keep it as a pet. I mean you can ride elephants around.

Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you hope to accomplish someday?
My parents, my uncle, and my grandpa, they all raise livestock and we work together as a family and we work hard. I really admire that about my family and I just think that’s cool. I’d like to do that.

What are you proudest of?
I’d say, I work as hard as I can all the time and when I accomplish something I feel pretty good about it. Also, my grades and accomplishments in 4-H and all that stuff.

You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I like green. Like the green-blue. Probably a farther green than blue because I like nature and that just reminds me of it.

Do you own a pet? Tells us his/her breed, name, how he/she got that name.
Yes, I do. I have 2 black labs. They are Keni, which is a town in Alaska, and Tess. Tess is because my grandma was going to have her, but we got so hooked on her that we had to keep her. Then we have a little yellow lab named Remi. Like Remington.

What’s something funny they do?
Remi, when she lays down, she’ll like stretch out like Superman kind of and put her front feet out and her back feet out. It’s really cute.

Can you tell me a joke?
Well, my brother came up with this one. I don’t know how funny it is, but he said, “How do vampires get to sleep? Count Dracula”.

That’s cute.
What is your favorite class in school and why?
I really like history, just because it’s like learning about the past and seeing how the past affects the future.

Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities? Any outside of school activities?
I run cross country. I play basketball. I’m involved in FFA. Church activities and 4-H.

A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a baseball cap. What does he say and why is he here?
I don’t know. Umm. Where’s the baseball field? He’s here to play baseball if he’s wearing a baseball hat.

Who is one of your friends that makes you laugh all the time?
Can I say my dad?

Absolutely.
My dad, Dan, makes me laugh all the time.

Who is your most academically inclined friend?
All my friends are pretty smart, but like the people I really look up to my sisters. They are both super smart. On honor rolls and Dean’s lists in college.

What are their names?
Timber and Meadow.

You guys have the coolest names.
Thank you.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?
In 10 years hopefully I have a job and maybe the start of a family. I am not sure what I want to do yet. There’s a lot of different ideas, but it’s narrowing down. I would get there through hard work, keep trying,  and having a job. Hopefully, working part-time.

It sounds like you are on your way to great successes. It is an honor to meet with you.
