Teen Talk: Cole Meeks, a Junior at Southern Wells High School
How old are you?
Do you like your name and if you had to change it what would it be?
Yes. I think it would have to be John. I had a great grandpa that had that name.
What’s the funniest thing that happened to you recently?
We were out fishing and I about fell over the side of the boat. I went to cast and I lost my balance and I about fell in the lake.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you choose to go and why?
I’d have to probably say up in the northern continents where there is a lot of game and hunting and fishing. Outdoorsy kind of things. Mountains. Minnesota, Canada, Alaska.
You have been given an elephant. You cannot give it away or sell it. What do you do with it?
I’d ride it!
Tell me something about a parent or relative that you find awesome and you
hope to accomplish someday.
My dad, he works up in Fort Wayne at the Air National Guard. He’s been there for about 18 years or so. That’s one of my goals. To go join the Air Force right after high school and be in security forces.
Nice. That is a very honorable accomplishment.
What are you proudest of?
I’d probably have to say that I am a hard working individual. I don’t usually stop until the job is completed.
You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Camo. That’s one of my favorite colors because of the way the greens, the blacks and the browns mesh together.
Do you own a pet? What’s your pets name? And tell me something funny he or she does.
We own a cat. Yo-yo. My sisters named it. Whenever she catches an animal or something she’ll bring it up and lay it on the doormat. Right in front of the door and say ‘look what I brought you’.
So she brings you presents.
Yeah and after everyone has seen it she will go down and eat it right on the patio.
Eeeww. Ok. Lovely. (laughing)
Can you tell me a joke?
There’s a daddy tomato and a mama tomato and a baby tomato. Their going out for a run one day. The baby tomato is falling behind. The daddy tomato turns around and says ‘ketchup’.
Perfect, I love it.
What’s your favorite class in school and why?
I’d say Ag Power and Structure. We are out in the ag building and we do a lot of welding and metal work and stuff like that. We fix and build things out there.
Are you involved in school sports, music or other activities?
Yes. I’m involved with cross country this year. Wrestling in the winter. Golf in the Spring. Band and FFA.
Is there anything you don’t do? You are busy!
My mom works here at the school. She’s a 7th and 8th grade math teacher. My grandma works in the office. Guidance Counselor.
That’s nice you are all together here.
Any outside of school activities?
I’m involved with our 4-H program. I’m on the Junior Leaders board.
A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a baseball hat. What
does he say and why is he here?
‘I got turned around. Where’s the North Pole at?’
Who is one of your friends that makes you laugh all the time?
That would have to probably be Jason.
Who’s your most academically inclined friend?
I’d have to say that would be Ashley.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years and how will you get there?
I see myself working up at the base. Security Forces. And then also being a Conservation Officer. After high school I’ll go into the military because Security Forces get the police training part of it done. Then when I turn 21 apply to be a Conservation Officer. If I get accepted I’ll have to go down to Vincennes and do some college classes down there.
Good for you! You have great future plans and it was awesome meeting you.
