Sam L. Steffen, 53, of Bluffton, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 17, 2018, at his residence, with many of his family members by his side.
Born in Bluffton on Oct. 12, 1964, to Lenard and Ilean Geyer Steffen, Sam married Janelle M. Cook in Fort Wayne on June 30, 1996; she survives.
Sam was a 1983 graduate of Bluffton High School and a member of Hope Missionary Church, where he also served as a worship leader. He was a self-employed carpenter who will be remembered for his love of music and poor jokes, such as…“Why did the golfer change his socks? He had a hole in one…”
In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by his mother, Ilean Steffen of Bluffton; two sons, Ayden Steffen and Jake Steffen, both of Bluffton; a daughter, Carissa Steffen of Ossian; a granddaughter, Penelopiy Pavlin; and three sisters, Rhonda (Fred) Rupel, Denise (Joe) Maller, and Terri (David) Mueller, all of Bluffton.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Lenard Steffen.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 19, from noon until 8 p.m., at Hope Missionary Church in Bluffton, west parking lot and entrance. Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m., at Hope Missionary Church, with two hours of visitation prior to the service at the church. Pastor Gary Aupperle and Pastor Steve Clough will officiate. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
