He was born in Kendallville Aug. 27, 1953, the son of the late Rev. Fuhrman P. Miller and Audra E. (Coats) Miller.
Overcoming several challenges, Alan was a proud 1973 graduate of Bellmont High School, where he ran on the cross country and track teams. After high school, he worked for a time at Decatur Industries and Decatur Casting and joined the Decatur Jaycees, where he received a “Jaycee of the Year” award.
He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur, where his father served as pastor for many years. He was a resident at Byron Health Center for 27 years, where his caregivers consistently described him as “such a kind and gentle soul.” The family wishes to thank the staff at Byron for their loving care.
He is survived by three brothers, Daniel Miller of Greencastle, Mark (Kathy) Miller of Bluffton, and Rev. Kevin (Liz) Miller of Valparaiso; and 10 nieces and nephews.
