Max is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Krummen) Tarr of Paoli; daughter, Lisa Tarr of Ossian; son, Tim and his wife, Roxanna Tarr of Frankfort; grandchildren, Sophia Tarr of Frankfort, Tina and husband Eli Unger, of Ooltewah, Tenn., Kylie Bauman of Ossian; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Anthony Unger, both of Ooltewah, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and LaLa Wells Tarr; sisters, Priscilla Brickley and Marilyn Irey; and brother, Ralph Tarr.
Max J. Tarr was a retired history and science teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent for Northern Wells Community Schools. He spent his years working with so many people that he thoroughly enjoyed who made him smile. He was a member of Paoli United Methodist Church. He loved God so much. He was a member of Gideon International, Masonic Lodge and Blue Lodge Scottish Rite. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Raising his Arabian horses and being outdoors was a huge joy in his life. He loved playing euchre and laughing with friends and family. He was a natural artist who could draw lifelike horses that flowed out of his pencil. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable, kind and helpful. He will be missed terribly by family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 18, at Paoli United Methodist Church and also from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 20 at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton. Officiating will be Rev. David Herr. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Paoli United Methodist Church.
