McCune, Zadylak score for Knights in dual wrestling meet

Dylan McCune and Kade Zadylak recorded two individual wins for the Norwell Knights’ wrestling team, but the Leo Lions were too much for the out-numbered Knights who lost 63-12.

McCune pinned Taylor Garton in 3:23 in his 170-pound match, and Zadylak won by a forfeit at 106 pounds.

Other individual weight class results for the Knights are as follows: 113: Danes Martin (L) over Luke Fillers, 8-4; 132: Chase Hissong pinned Trevor Wilson, 1:01; 145: Isaac Eicher pinned Cameron Harris, 3:09; 182: Carter Morin pinned Jared Cross, 1:58; 220: John Isaacson pinned Chandler Schoeff, 1:34.

Crusader boys top Bluffton, Bellmont

The Norwell Crusaders boys’ basketball teams started the week with four victories. On Monday, the seventh-grade Crusaders beat Bluffton 35-26 at Bluffton, and Tuesday they topped Bellmont 37-27 at Decatur.

In eight-grade action, the Crusaders beat Bluffton 41-28 and Bellmont 56-24.

Eli Riley scored 22 for the seventh graders against Bluffton. Joel Rinkenberger added seven, Kaden Laley two, Mason Werling two and Josh Henslee two.

Riley netted 20 to help down Bellmont. Laley had three, while Evan Zimmer, Tanner Felger, Max Ringger, Jace Chaney, Brett Wathen, Werling and Rinkenberger each added two points.

The eighth-grade Crusaders were led by Will Geiger with 20 points against Bluffton. Quinton Purdy had nine, Kaden Bussel four, Beldon Glasgow three, Cade Wilson three and Mason DeHoff two points. Brady Green had seven points and Nathan Bueter five for Bluffton.

Geiger had 10 against Bellmont, followed by Conner Torson with eight, Logan House six, Purdy five and Glasgow four. Jason Johnloz, Landyn Wilson and Wilson each added three points. Konner Norman, Bussel, DeHoff, Dallas Topp and Drew Federspiel each added two points.

Raider boys win eighth-grade game

The Southern Wells Junior High School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team defeated West Jay 35-27 on Tuesday night, while the seventh-grade Raiders were topped 32-17.

Kreigh Roush scored 23 points to lead the eighth-grade Raiders (8-7). Will Pennington added seven, Jed Perry three and Dylan Junk two.

Owen Vickrey had eight points for the seventh-grade Raiders (2-13), while James Foss scored six, Will Moore two and Tanner Johnson one.

Crusader girls sweep Bellmont

The Norwell Middle School girls’ basketball teams swept their two games against Bellmont Tuesday.

Breann Barger scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the eighth-grade Crusaders to a 34-28 win. Sydney Lambert added seven points and two rebounds, while Sophia Cady had five points and three rebounds. Macy Morgan came up with five steals. The Crusaders are 13-3 overall and 7-3 in conference games.

Maiah Shelton netted 14 points to lead the seventh-grade Crusaders to a 39-29 win. Lauren Bales added 11. Lindsay Collins added five points and Kiley Crow three. Grace Bradtmueller, Hannah Hawkins and Macy Eckert each added two points.

The Crusaders begin conference tournament play Thursday, Jan. 21, at home against Leo.

Bluffton seventh-grade boys win

The Bluffton seventh-grade boys’ basketball team gave the Tigers a split in two games Tuesday against Huntington Riverview.

Bluffton won 34-19 with Ethan McEvoy leading the Tigers with 15 points. Will Ball added five points, Kaden Gerber four, Mason Schwartz two, Seth Bennett one and Reece Johnson one point.

The eighth-grade Tigers lost 30-27. Nick Bowman had nine points and Brady Green seven to lead the Tigers.

Bluffton girls lose to Riverview

The Bluffton Middle School girls’ basketball teams were defeated Tuesday by Huntington Riverview. The Tigers’ eighth-grade squad lost 30-12, while the seventh-grade Tigers suffered a close 21-19 setback.

Emme Boots led the Bluffton seventh graders with nine points. Elayna Kitt and Alexis Vineyard each had four points and Natalie Lehrman two points.

Savanah Davis scored four points for the Tigers’ eighth graders, and Sophie King had two points.
