Richard L. Wasson, 88, of Decatur, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born March 4, 1926, in Bluffton, to Laverne W. Wasson and Vada B. Woodward Wasson. He married Juanita J. Fruchte June 15, 1947; she preceded him in death. He married his second wife, Vella Dawn Teeple, on May 25, 1996; she also preceded him in death.
Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church of Decatur. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1944 and joined the U.S. Army. He served at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France, during World War II.
He worked for HJ Body Food Brokerage until 1968 when he started with Duo Marine in sales. He and five other partners then formed Signa Marine Inc. in 1970. Signa was later purchased by Fuqua Corp. and the partners were named the managing group for Thunderbird Manufacturing Co. He worked for Thunderbird until his retirement.
Calling will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Woodcrest Porter Auditorium, followed by a 2 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Amy Covington will be officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton, with military graveside rites led by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to the Adams County Community Fund’s Angel Cancer Fund.
