Robert Gilliom, 83

Robert L. “Bob” Gilliom, 83, of Ossian, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Born in Wells County on Oct. 14, 1929, to Raymond J. and Nora Grace (Robart) Gilliom, he married Joyce Ann Felts on Oct. 27, 1950, in Bluffton; she survives.
He was a 1947 graduate of Lancaster High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He owned and operated Gilliom Insulating in the early 1960s and was a construction crain operator with Don R. Fruchey Construction, where he was the heavy equipment manager for 28 years before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Gilliom was a member of the Grover Sheets American Legion Post 111. He was an avid sports and IU fan. He loved playing golf and going walleye fishing in Canada. He was a regular at Nel’s Cafe.
Other survivors include four daughters, Susan (Kevin) Bushee of Ossian, Jill Wilson of Ossian, Cindy (Mike) Uptgraft of Bluffton, and Pam (Jody) Day of Uniondale; a brother, Max (Shirley) Gilliom of Ossian; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Markley.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with Kent Ringger officiating. Calling hours there are Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by the Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 111 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the American Lung Association or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
