Richard D. Marshall, 88

Richard D. Marshall, 88, of Bluffton, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at his residence in Bluffton.
Richard was born May 26, 1926, in Wells County to Homer M. and Lula B. Dedrick Marshall. A lifelong resident of Wells County, he graduated from Bluffton High School in 1946 and went on to serve in the United States Navy Reserves. 
On Nov. 27, 1949, in Bluffton, he married Jean J. Graden. They have shared the last 64 years together. Richard was the co-owner and co-operator of Graden Tire in Bluffton for 43 years, retiring in 1992. He also managed many rental properties in Bluffton, and he sold real estate in Wells County for 30 years most recently with Shaw Real Estate & Auction Company.
He founded Boy Scout Troop 148 sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton and became their scoutmaster for the first five years. During that time the troop produced five Eagle Scouts. He was registered with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 75 years, receiving the Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver Award, and numerous other scouting recognitions.
He was a member of the Bluffton Masonic Lodge 145, where he was raised a master mason in 1949 and was a member of the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton where he has served as an elder, trustee and a deacon, and was instrumental in the building of the church at its current location. He was also a member of the Bluffton Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Jean of Bluffton; along with children, Patrick Marshall of Fort Wayne and Kay (Rod) Stine of Huntington; and five grandchildren, Stefanie Stine and Sarah Stine both of Huntington, and Kiersten Marshall, Tessa Marshall and Nicole Keller of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth Marshall and James Marshall.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home. A Masonic Memorial Service will take place at 8 p.m. at the conclusion of the visitation hours. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Laura Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.
