Rev. Lester Thurl Mann, 84, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Anaheim Hills, Calif.
He was born Oct. 1, 1928, along with his twin brother, in Montpelier to Harry and Vera Mann. He was a twin, born of a twin, and later had twin sons.
Rev. Mann was a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for 58 years prior to retiring for the second time in 2008. Fourteen of those years were spent in evangelism with his wife, Mary Kay, during which time they traveled the country preaching and singing, and recorded three musical albums.
Rev. Mann was a dynamic, warm, giving man of God. He was one of the best joke tellers you could ever meet. He was an amazing father and grandfather, a devoted husband, a wonderful pastor, and a truly great man. He loved to laugh and he dearly loved ‘his people’ wherever he pastored. He was very much loved and he will be terribly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary Kathryn Mann; his children, Gary, Larry, Stan and Alynne; grandchildren, Melissa, Sean, Keenan, and Hannah; and four great-grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Merl Mann, Mary Lou Riggs, and Arlin Mann.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melissa Ferne (Bennett) Mann who passed away on Feb. 13, 1976.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Leckrone officiating.
