Phyllis ‘Phid’ Hamilton, 88,

Phyllis “Phid” Hamilton, 88, of Bluffton, passed away following a short illness at 10:39 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton.
Phid was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Bluffton to Donald B. and Helen Naomi (Thorpe) Spake.
She has lived in Wells County most of her life. She graduated from Bluffton High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, The Bay View Reading Club, and Tri Kappa.
She volunteered over 5,000 hours at the Caylor-Nickel Clinic information desk and enjoyed needlework and oil painting and playing bridge. Phid served as the Memorial Chairman for the Cancer Society in Wells County for many years.
On Aug. 7, 1948, she married William K. Hamilton. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Ann (Mo) Shields of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Amy (Tim) Wiley of Carmel, and a son, Tom (Pam) Hamilton of Bluffton; along with five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral home in Bluffton. Rev. Greg Rittenhouse will officiate. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.
Memorials may be made in Phid’s memory to First United Methodist Church or to Caylor-Nickel Foundation.
