Heath D. Bumgarner, 18

Heath D. Bumgarner, 18, a resident of rural Uniondale, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Lutheran Hospital.
He was a senior at Norwell High School, attending the Anthis Career Center in Fort Wayne. He had been accepted to attend Ohio Technical College in Cleveland, Ohio. He became a certified welder as a junior in high school and placed first in the Indiana regional welding competition sponsored by  SkillsUSA. He was scheduled to participate in the state competition in April.
He played football in seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. He ran track as a freshman and a sophomore. He was an eight-year participant in 4-H. He loved farming, hunting, racing go-karts, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling.
He had also worked as a welder at Novae Corp. in Markle since November of 2012.
Heath was born Dec. 17, 1994, in Wells County, to Bruce D. Bumgarner and Kimberly S. Brown Bumgarner. His parents survive, as do two sisters, Amber (Foster) Reed of Yoder and Lacey (Nathan) Meyer of Ossian, and his nieces and nephews, Connor Reed, Kenley Reed, and Garrett Reed.
Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Sue Brown of Bluffton; his paternal grandmother, Deanna Bumgarner of Uniondale; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His grandfathers, Richard Brown and Leo Bumgarner, preceded him in death.
Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind. 124, Bluffton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lancaster Elementary School, 3275E-300N, Bluffton, with Pastor Mike Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at the Horeb Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Anthis Career Center’s welding program or the Wells County 4-H beef program.
