Fredrick Dee Gearhart, 80

Fredrick Dee Gearhart, 80, a lifelong resident of Markle, passed away peacefully at his home Jan. 19, 2013.
He graduated from East Union High School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, and was honorably discharged from the USAF Reserve in July 1960. He developed many friendships during his 37 years as a dedicated employee of Fox Contractors and Prime Construction Company.
Fred, known as “Freddie,” was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Markle, to Ray Gearhart and Helen Folk Gearhart. He married Kathryn Henry Gearhart in 1957, and they had four children: Debra Gearhart of Sacramento, Calif., Jeffrey Gearhart of Markle, Kentin Gearhart of Indianapolis, and Jay (Lisa) Gearhart of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Air Force Capt. Joel Gearhart of Melbourne, Fla., Natalie (Preston) Torbet of San Clemente, Calif., and Jordan Gearhart and Lindsay Gearhart, both of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Ned (Kathy) Solloway of Wabash and Rex (Janice) Solloway of Huntington. He is also survived by his former wife, Kate Gearhart of Markle.
Following Fred’s wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
