Florence Ruth Fields, 92

Florence Ruth Fields, 92, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Bluffton, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Ruth was born in Laurel, Ind., on Oct. 25, 1920, to James and Josephine (Smith) Adams. Ruth’s first marriage was to L. Duane Goodwin; he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1989. Her second marriage was to James Fields; he preceded her in death on June 18, 2001.
Ruth graduated from New Salem High School. She lived most of her life in Wells County. Ruth was a homemaker and was also the owner/operator of Ruth’s Pizza Palace and the Chatter Box, both in Bluffton. She was a former member and one of the assisting founders of the Community Christian Church in Bluffton. Ruth currently attended Grace Summit Church in Fort Wayne.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Lloyd Duane (Betty) Goodwin of Hickory, N.C., and Larry (Shari) Goodwin of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Judy (Steve) Johnson of Ossian and Kathy Sue (John) DeWitt of Columbia City; a special niece, Joy Jean Hall of Connersville; eleven grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Mercer in 2006; one grandson, Fred Mercer, Jr. in 2006; and three sisters, Edna Adams, Hazel Gallimore and Edith McCauley.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 14, and one hour prior to services on Monday, April 15, all at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. A service celebrating Ruth’s life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Goodwin and Dr. Bryson Bell officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens of Fort Wayne.
Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or Grace Summit Church.
