Ethel M. King, 88 of Gas City and a former Bluffton resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 2014, at her residence in Gas City.
Mrs. King was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Keystone to David S. Gephart and Loma O. (Gustin) Gephart. She graduated from Chester Center High School in the class of 1944. On Dec. 23, 1950, in Fort Wayne, she married Homer D. King. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1989.
She worked at Morris five and dime store in Bluffton, Kroger Grocery in Bluffton and at Fort Wayne Tailoring. She retired as a clerk at the Harris & Weterick Drug Store in Bluffton, retiring in 1976. In 1978 Ethel moved from Bluffton to Tucumcari, N.M., where she operated a motel and worked at a used furniture store. In 1989 she moved back to Gas City. She had a booth in the Marion Flea Market on Nebraska Street for over 15 years. She was a lifetime member of the Gas City Moose Lodge Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary of Bluffton. She loved to cook and entertain her family and friends.
Ethel is survived by brothers, Donald (Berniece) Gephart of Ossian, Glen Gephart of Decatur, Jacob (Joyce) Gephart of Gas City, Dean (Carolyn) Gephart of Kuhn Lake, and Kay (Nina) Gephart of Montpelier; along with sisters, Helen Gephart of Portland and Martha Weaver of Montpelier.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Gephart, Carl Gephart, Max Gephart and Joe Gephart.
A service to celebrate Ethel’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. before the service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Stahl Cemetery in Bluffton.
