Posted on April 10, 2013
Barbara Ann Foley of Austin, Texas, a former Ossian resident, passed away at 2:22 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, after losing a valiant fight with cancer.
Our mother and wife was a special lady. While her passion was always evident for her husband and sons (“the Three Js”), numerous special education students throughout the Round Rock (Texas) Independent School and multiple members of the district’s Westwood Choral program considered her as a second mother. Her compassion and acceptance for all people regardless of ability was crystal clear. She loved unconditionally.
She was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Fort Wayne, to Merrill Melton and Genevieve Snyder Melton. She was a 1960 graduate of Ossian High School and lived on West Mill Street in Ossian prior to attending college at Ball State University.
She married her loving husband Jack Foley in October of 1973 in Fort Wayne. Her husband survives.
Also surviving are her oldest son Justin Foley and his wife Katharine; her youngest son Jonathan Foley and his wife Heather; her grandchildren, Abby, Xander, and Juliana; her brother Richard Melton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, students, and people who called her “Mama Foley.”
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas, 78750.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Austin’s Christopher House, 512-342-4747; the American Cancer Society; the Bethany UMC Foundation; or the Down Home Ranch, 888-926-2253.
