New fitness program will benefit active older adults

Body Solutions Fitness & Tanning, located at 627 N Main Street in Bluffton, is recognizing the unique needs of the older adults in the community. By partnering with the nationally recognized Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program, Body Solutions is able to offer older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and is available at no additional cost beyond the monthly premium to Medicare eligible members of AARP by SecureHorizons, Humana, Anthem, and Secure Horizons.
“Millions of older adults suffer from chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer and high blood pressure that can be prevented or improved through regular physical activity,” says Healthways Senior Vice President Steve Lindstrom. “In addition to helping older adults stay physically healthy, SilverSneakers also offers a great way for them to socialize, meet new friends and have fun.”
SilverSneakers is an innovative exercise program specifically designed for Medicare beneficiaries’ unique health and physical needs. Since November of 2006, eligible members can receive a basic membership at Body Solutions, where they can enjoy specialized non-impact SilverSneakers fitness classes focusing on improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Certified SilverSneakers fitness instructors teach the classes, and in addition to the classes, SilverSneakers participants can also enjoy other membership benefits, including:
• Use of exercise equipment (e.g., treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals, rowing machines, etc.)
• Weight training
• Circuit training
• SilverSneakers classes, including Muscular Strength & Range of Movement, CardioCircuit, and YogaStretch
In addition, SilverSneakers members can visit any participating location across the nation when they travel.
