Kaylee Imel, McCormick Clouser tied for lead in golf tournament
Two Wells County teenagers were tied for first place in their respective groups after the first day of the Indiana Golf Foundation Age Group Championships at Plymouth’s Indiana National Golf Club East Course.
Kaylee Imel, who will be a junior at Norwell, was tied with Auburn’s Laura Vogt in the girls 17 age group with five over par 77s. McCormick Clouser, who will be a sophomore at Norwell, was locked in the lead of the boys 15 age group with Jonathan Osting of Indianapolis with three over par 75s.
Imel finished the first round with a 39 on the front nine and 38 on the back. Clouser shot a 39 on the front and 36 on the back.
Taylor Imel, who will be a sophomore at Norwell, is chasing Clouser, tied for 7th place with a six over par 78 (37-41). Teammate Ross Mathews was in 14th place with an 11-over 83 (37-46).
In the boys 18 year-old group, Norwell senior Drew Imel was tied for 11th with a six-over 78 (42-36).
The final round is today at the Swan Lake Resort layout.

Junior League golf contest results
Chipping and pitching contest results from the Timber Ridge golf club Junior League are as follows:
Chipping: Ages 8-and-under, Walker Copeland, Sadie Mann; 9-10, Brody Clifford, Rachel Worden; 11-12, Kaitlyn Schriver, Daniel Shepherd, Brett Wilson; 13-14, Maggie Lazzelle, Jack Williams; 15-and-over, Drew Williams, Kristen Springer.
Pitching: Ages 6-8, Macy Morgan, Jordan Elliott, Cole Meeks; 9-10, Kate Mahnensmith, Brody Myers; 11-12, Kobie Lucabaugh, Country Miller; 13-14, Jaron Moser, Kelsey Beer; 15-18, Drew Williams, Olivia Shapley.

Youth football sets sign up dates, times
Boys in grades 5-6 (2008-09 school year) may register for the Wells County Youth Football League on July 8 and 14 at Fred F. Park Stadium in Bluffton (varsity field) from 6:30-8  p.m. and July 9 and 15 at Norwell (football equipment room in high school gym) between 6:30-8 p.m. Students from Bluffton, Norwell and Southern Wells are encouraged to attend one of these dates. To be guaranteed equipment, boys must attend one of the registration times to be fitted for equipment. Forms are available at the Bluffton Parks Department and were previously given to all boys during the last week of school. Cost is $60, which is due the day of sign ups.

State Farm 18, National City 1
Michael Pearson, Hunter Greenway and Bryce Kipfer led State Farm’s 21-hit attack and overpowered National City 18-1 Wednesday night in a Bluffton Junior League baseball game at Jefferson Park. Pearson, Greenway and Kipfer each had four hits. Pearson and Greenway homered, while Greenway added two doubles. Kipfer also doubled. Noah Antrim and Austin Brigner both added three hits, including two doubles by Brigner and a triple by Antrim. Brigner also struck out seven batters as the winning pitcher. Jarrett Harris tripled for National City and losing pitcher Tristan Niblick drove in the run with a single.

Metaldyne 19, Mediacom 2
Levi Arnold and Collin Barker each had four hits and Mitchell Kuhlenbeck doubled and singled twice to pace Metaldyne’s 19-2 victory over Mediacom in a Bluffton Farm League baseball game Wednesday night at Roush Park. Bryce Paxson added a double and single, while Grant Prible, Max Corle and Jacey Dunnuck each singled twice. Kuhlenbeck also was the winning pitcher, while the loss went to T.C. Perry.

T-Ball scores reported
The following Bluffton T-Ball League scores have been reported: Longenberger Financial 21, Les Gerber Insurance 11.

Louisville to play Notre Dame, USF, WVU twice

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville will face Notre Dame, South Florida and West Virginia twice in 2008-09 as part of the Cardinals’ 18-game Big East schedule.
The Cardinals will play the remaining teams in the conference once. Louisville won each of its lone meetings with the three mirror opponents last year.
