Thumpers capture tourney title
The Bluffton Thumpers 14U girls fast pitch team defeated Monroe Blue on Sunday to win the Monroe All-Star Tournament.
Bluffton trailed Monroe Blue 5-1 after 4 1/2 innings and rallied to pull out the victory. Maggie Garrett, Peyton Fugate and Connelly Mettler reached base to start a 7th-inning rally. Breanna Brickley delivered the big blow with a one-out sacrifice fly to score Fugate with the winning run.
Brickley also keyed a three-run, fifth-inning rally with a two-run double that got the Thumpers within 5-4.
In the semifinals, Bluffton rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the 7th for a 7-6 win over Monroe Red. Kyanne Bryant’s single with two outs scored Karlie Longenberger from second to secure the victory.
The Thumpers began the day with a 16-6 defeat of Norwell. Danielle Brown paced the offense with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs.
Garrett finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record on the mound. The Thumpers have a 5-0-1 record.
Standard Plastics 10, National City 3
Cody Harris led Standard Plastics to a 10-3 victory over National City in a Bluffton Junior League baseball game Monday night at Jefferson Park. Harris was the winning pitcher and helped his own cause by driving in four runs. He had three of his team’s 14 hits, including a home run and double. He also scored twice. Jake Garrett drove in one run with a double and two singles and scored twice. Caitlin Herndon doubled and singled and scored twice. Tristan Niblick doubled and knocked in a run for National City. James Spera doubled twice and scored twice and also was the losing pitcher.
Metaldyne 16, MarkleBank 0
Metaldyne’s pitching held MarkleBank to no hits for a 16-0 victory in a Bluffton Farm League baseball game Monday night at Roush Park. Collin Barker was the winning pitcher and singled twice to help the offense. Grant Prible added a double, while Mitchell Kuhlenbeck and Levi Arnold both singled twice. Jacob Heron was the losing pitcher.
Zanesville 7, Imel Brothers 6
Zanesville Merchants scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to seize a three-run lead, then held on to defeat Imel Brothers 7-6 in Wells County Junior League U12 baseball tournament play on Monday in Uniondale. Zanesville advances out of the loser’s bracket to face Ossian State Bank in the championship round. Trevor Eichler hit a two-run double and Justin Branstrator had a two-run single in the fourth for Zanesville. Piercen Harnish, Jaron Stoppenhagen and Colin Loker also had hits for Zanesville. Imel received hits from Graham Denney, Colyn Torson and Bray Wilson. Reggie Hayes was the winning pitcher in relief of Clouser, and Logan Dettmer took the loss.
T-Ball scores reported
The following Bluffton T-Ball League scores have been reported: Steve’s Landscaping 17, Longenberger Financial 12; Shaw Realty 18, Apache Propane 15; Almco Steel 17, NAPA 9.
Summer track meets scheduled
New Haven High School will be hosting six track and field meets on Wednesday nights July 2, 9 and16. Meets begin at 6 p.m. Cost is 50 cents per event. Register for Norwell football golf outing
Entries are being taken for the Norwell football golf outing on Aug. 9 at Timber Ridge golf course in Bluffton. Cost is $60 or $40 for Timber Ridge members, including 18 holes, cart and lunch. Sign up for Bluffton Tennis Tournament
Residents of Wells, Adams, Huntington and Wabash counties may register for the Bluffton Tennis Tournament sponsored by the Bluffton Parks Department. The tournament will be held July 11-13. Cost is $7 for each person/event and $12 for doubles. Entry deadline is July 7. Registration forms are available at the Parks Dept. office, the pool and online at www.blufftonindiana.net
