MIDLAND, Mich. — It was a rocky start, but the South Bend Silver Hawks managed to get by the Great Lakes Loons 5-3 in Thursday night’s Class A Midwest League baseball game.
South Bend scored in the first, but Great Lakes countered with three runs in the bottom half. Being resilient, the Silver Hawks tied the game up in the second.
It was 3-3 until the sixth when Chance Wheeless connected on a solo home run.
Jarrod Parker (4-1) struggled in the first, but showed his maturity to right the ship. Parker went six innings and gave up three runs on six hits, while striking out seven. Bryan Henry and Evan Scribner came on for no run, hit relief.
