Five Norwell students earned awards at the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America (BPA). The conference was held May 6-11 in Reno, Nevada.
Senior Brent Fiechter placed second in the nation in Speadsheet Analysis; senior Bethany Wilson placed fourth in the nation in Desktop Publishing; junior Jessi Bunch placed ninth in the nation in Desktop Publishing; senior David Ng placed seventh in the nation in Computerized Accounting; and junior Brock Caley placed seventh in the nation in Fundamental Word Processing.
Senior Melissa Lambert received the Ambassador Torch Award which recognizes members who have shown outstanding professional qualities.
Approximately 4000 high school business students from throughout the United States participated in the 42nd National Conference. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, election of national officers, and contests.
The highlight of the conference was the presentation of awards to the winners in the national contests.
BPA is a student organization for business students to help prepare them for the workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. Debbie Darnell and Eric Thornton, business teachers at Norwell, accompanied the students to Reno.
