JV Knights clobber Columbia City
Wayne Saalfrank and Nolan Kremer each drove in three runs to lead the Norwell Knights junior varsity baseball team to a 14-2 victory over the Columbia City Eagles on Tuesday at Norwell.
Saalfrank homered and singled and Kremer doubled and singled as the Knights pounded out 11 hits. Travis Gray and Matt Harris each had two RBIs. Gray doubled twice, while Graham Shearer and Jake Kendall each doubled. Jasson Werling, Dakota Parker and Shearer each had one RBI. Dan DeArmond was the winning pitcher. The Knights improved to 12-5 and finished 4-3 against Northeast Hoosier Conference opponents.

Youth golfers top Peru
A group of youth golfers, who are students at Norwell, defeated Peru 189-203 on Tuesday at Timber Ridge golf course in Bluffton. McCallister Clouser was medalist with a five over par 41 on the front nine. Brandon Renner had a 48, Jake Herrell 49 and Nick James 51.
Peru won the junior varsity contest 236-237. Leading the Norwell golfers was Austin Chamberlin with a 56 and Roger Duggan with a 59. Brandon Betts added a 60, Jack Williams 62 and Daniel Heckman 66.

Ossian State Bank 18, Metaldyne 1
Ossian State Bank defeated Metaldyne 18-1 in four innings in Northern Wells 12U Division action at Uniondale Tuesday night. Jonah Patten was the winning pitcher striking out seven.  Patten also went 4 for 4 with two home runs and nine RBIs.  Garrett Mohler had three singles. Brandon Burch had two singles and scored four times. Cody Fiedler doubled. Jordan Dickey scored for Metaldyne.

Pizza Hut 5, Standard Plastics 3                       
Ritchie Conley hit a home run and struck out 13 batters to help lead Pizza Hut to a 5-3 victory over Standard Plastics in Bluffton Junior League baseball on Tuesday. Thomas Elliott added a triple for Pizza Hut. Cody Harris homered for Standard Plastics and Jake Garrett doubled. Harris also was the losing pitcher.

Hiday Motors 4, F.O.P. 3                        
Reggie Garrett singled in the winning run with two outs to give Hiday Motors a 4-3 victory over F.O.P. on Tuesday in Bluffton Farm League baseball action. Bryce Bonewit struck out 13 and scattered three hits and seven walks as the winning pitcher. Nate Flatt had two hits and drove in three runs. Trey Collins doubled and singled for F.O.P., while Grant Harris was the losing pitcher.

Norwell girls tennis camp slated
The Norwell Girls Tennis Camp will be held June 16-20 for Norwell girls entering grades 5-9 in 2008-09. Cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt. The morning sessions will be conducted by Norwell coach Terri Worden. Application forms are available at Lancaster and Ossian elementary schools and Norwell Middle School. Lady Knight basketball camps slated
The Norwell girls basketball camps will be held June 9-12 in the Norwell High School auxiliary gym. Girls entering grades 1-4 will meet from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and grades 5-8 will meet from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost is $35 per camper or $30 per camper for two or more girls from the same family. Baer Field Speedway to open
FORT WAYNE — Baer Field Speedway will open for its 45th year of racing activity Saturday, May 17 with a special CRA late model sportsman event with a 50-lap feature race.
Topping the list of pre-race favorites has Tony Dager of Spencerville, Ind., coming off his feature wins at Winchester and Anderson speedways. Other area favorites include Rick Rinehart of Ashley, Ind., Nick Lay, Chad and Neal Richardson of Fort Wayne, 2007 champion Billy Hutson of New Haven and Charlie Hanna of Goshen.
Also on Saturday’s racing program at Baer Field are open wheel modifieds, street stocks, and mini stocks. Time trials begin at 5 p.m., with racing at 7:30 p.m.

Hoosiers hire associate head coach
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana hired Katie Abrahamson-Henderson as its associate head women’s basketball coach Wednesday.
Abrahamson-Henderson, who spent last season at Washington, will begin working for head coach Felisha Legette-Jack on June 1.
Abrahamson-Henderson went 95-61 in five seasons as Missouri State’s head coach, leading the Lady Bears to two regular season conference titles, three conference tournament crowns and a WNIT championship. She finished her tenure No. 3 in victories at the school.
Abrahamson-Henderson graduated from Iowa after playing two seasons at Georgia where she was part of the Bulldogs’ 1986 SEC title team.
