Vote numbers could be down to mighty few

June 14, 2013 — By DAVE SCHULTZ

The Wells County Area Plan Commission’s voting process could be hung up Monday night by a lack of numbers.
The Area Plan Commission has 11 members. That means that six — a simple majority — are necessary to pass a motion. For instance, a motion to either approve or disapprove the plans for the location of wind turbines in southern Wells County will mean six votes.
That rule — six votes to approve a motion — is in place no matter how many APC members are present for the meeting. It is possible that Monday night’s meeting will only include seven of 11 APC members, which means that any motion can have no more than one dissenting vote to pass.
