Saturday Sub: What sacrifices have we made?

Just a few weeks ago, we marked the 70th anniversary of D-Day. There were ceremonies and speeches at Normandy and other beaches along the northern coast of France. There were articles written, memories from the dwindling number of men and women who experienced the day, re-prints of notable columns by Ernie Pyle.
The theme of course, was the sacrifices made by the thousands who died that day and the hundreds of thousands who experienced the horrors of war.
One of our co-workers came across an old box last week and brought its contents into the office to share. It was a ration book from the World War II era.
